Makaliʻi Project
WHAT WE DO - Our Programming
The Makaliʻi Project creates immersive land experiences for young adults that foster cultural literacy, environmental stewardship, place-based wellness and community engagement. Our practice is rooted in Hawaiian culture, but thrives on relationships with other ways of knowing.

OUR KULEANA - Statement of ResponsibilitY
The health of our land is the health of our people. We work to create relationships that bind us to the land and one another, across cultures, places, and generations. As the Makaliʻi star cluster once guided our ancestors throughout Moananuiakea, we are guided by our responsibility to ensure the well-being of our people and planet is as constant and reliable as the Makaliʻi itself.
HEALTH IN COMMUNITY
Many programs treat health as a service to be delivered. We know that an investment in land, water, cultural identity and intergenerational continuity strengthens the underlying systems that produce well-being. The Makaliʻi Project builds leadership, stewardship, and relational infrastructure that supports communities to sustain their own health over time.
While the Makaliʻi Project is born of the sands and waters of Hawaiʻi, our kuleana extends across the Pacific and America: everywhere communities are reclaiming their ancestral systems of health. Our work is amplified through these collaborations. By partnering with leading nonprofits, agencies and indigenous practitioners, we translate cultural knowledge into measurable community impact.
